ฝุ่นละอองในอากาศ (Particles) ซึ่ง จะกระจายอยู่ในรูปแบบของฝุ่นละออง ลอยอยู่ในอากาศ ซึ่งแหล่งที่มาของฝุ่น ควันในอากาศ (Paticles) นั้นโดยส่วนใหญ่ จะออกมาจากท่อไอเสียรถยนต์ การปล่อยของเสียจากโรงงานอุตสาหกรรม, การเผาขยะ, และจากแหล่งอื่นๆ ที่ทำให้เกิดฝุ่น ควันขึ้นไปในอากาศ โดยอนุภาค หรือฝุ่นละออง เหล่านั้นจะมีขนาดเล็กกว่า 2.5μm หรือที่เรียกว่า "PM2.5" มีขนาดเล็กกว่าเซลล์ของมนุษย์ และสามารถสูดดม เข้าสู่ปอดและ กระแสเลือดของคนได้ ซึงฝุ่นละอองเหล่านี้ร่างกายจะไม่สามารถทำการย่อยสลายได้ หรือขับออกมาได้ จึงสะสมในอยู่ในร่างกายมนุษย์ไปเรื่อยๆ จนมีปริมาณมากจนทำให้เป็นอันตราย หรือ ป่วยได้โดยเฉพาะโรคที่เกี่ยวกับระบบทางเดินหายใจ โดยปกติค่ามาตรฐาน ที่ทำการวัดการตรวจวัดปริมาณฝุ่นละออง ควรจะอยู่ที่ค่า PM2.5 (2.5μm) และ PM10 (10 μm)
